Some items may be available from multiple suppliers. It would be nice to have just one part number for these items but the ability to include other suppliers and their cost in just the single item.
chris: this new functionality will be usable for many users in the system, as Colin mentioned.
I think that you can complement the new function considering the stage quotation process as the purchase area normaly faces (some times, considering that we dont have a main supplier)
1. Create a PO and sent to many suppliers
2. Receipt Confirmation ( days, price, payment condition),
3. Select the main suplier or many suplier(split rowns, select two or more suppliers) and make the request.
4. receipt items fisically and the invoice
5. Follow the backorder if is necessary.
Other considerations that we need to preventing, come be at the moment that we create a sales order, maybe we need to work with drop shipping or whit a minimum quantity in stock, in these case the time( days) and sale price are necesary to show or sugested to our salesman.
Hope you find the best solution for all, best regards!
Chris Muench: At present a supplier is not required during a sale. A supplier is only needed when creating a receiving.
May be you intend to have each supplier with their own inventory, hence buying 10 items from supplier A, then 5 from supplier B. As you say, we would need to have some option to select supplier A or B on the sales screen.
For us, a second or third supplier would be used in case our main supplier is out-of-stock. The price difference would be small 5% maybe, hence we would keep the selling price stable.
Chris Muench: personaly we dont need that functionality
Colin How would we determine the selling price during sale? Would they just pick the supplier as an option?
Chris Muench: Yes - please - because i set a strict profit margin on the goods I sell. If I buy for less the selling price too is lower.
I think cost price would be enough. It is most important to know the cost price per supplier.
For us the selling price would stay the same. We would always go back to the cheapest supplier as soon as we could.
Carlos Oulman SCUTTLEBUTT NAUTICAL Nicoleen Saminathar We are going to allow for different cost prices per supplier. Would you guys ever need a different selling price per supplier?
I too have the same question. Nicoleen
Consider books. They can be purchased from the publisher and/or one or more distributors. Their ISBN (International Standardized Book Number) does not change. I don't know how we're going to differentiate between vendors.
